Today I will be reviewing the latest collaboration from Neopets with G-FUEL, which was announced on July twenty-twenty-four to celebrate Neopet’s 25th anniversary.
Now if you don’t know what G-FUEL is, they are an energy drinks brand targeted towards gamers. I thought it was pretty funny to see the two brands collaborate and pretty fitting with neopet’s new era, although this is not neopets' first collaboration with G-FUEL, as they already released a similar product last year in July twenty-twenty-three.
Opening the box and what’s inside
So, we received our package at the beginning of the week after much impatience, as this was our first piece of neomerch, but also since ravioliandcheddar’s been wanting to try out G-FUEL for quite little while now.
The box itself is pretty cute, featuring neopet’s 25th anniversary artwork with beautiful starry body patterns. I’m a little bit sad that it doesn’t feature a Vandagyre with that pattern, but the neopets’ team has yet to draw one. Considering the shamefully low popularity of the vandagyre I doubt this will be happening… The box is still such a beauty and it will be shining on display at our place !
So when I open the box, you can see first thing first the rare item prize code, which I’ve obviously covered. Inside the box, and sorry because I already opened it and used it, you will find the slushie cup and the g-fuel energy drink.
The box also came with a little sticker which is absolutely lovely.
Thee slushie cup
The slushie cup is pretty cute and tall, allowing to fit a good amount of liquid inside of it. I enjoy the golden stars and the neopet’s logo as well as the simplicity of the design. I really like that the patterns are printed on the inside of the cup between two layers, as it will allow us to safely wash the cup without tearing appart the pattern. However yes, the cup is in plastic, so that’s a thing…
There is also some kind of « button » at the bottom of the cup which will prove itself to be quite handy if you want to display this item as it’ll help you make the straw fit straight in the cup.
Golden berry drink taste test
The energy drink is a powder-based blend, which means that you will need to mix it with water to make your energy drink. There is a little spoon inside of the container so you can safely dose your drink.
Mixed together, the « Great Golden Slushie » looks like a lovely saturated orange which obvioulsy reminds us of Neopet’s brand color. On neopets.com, it is said it taste like gold and sunshine. I couldn’t identify those flavours, but the drink tasted like a mix of kiwi and orange. It’s fruity, it’s sweet but not too sweet, a little bit sour... It is really good ! One thing is sure, this energy drink is more than welcome to get ready for this year Altador’s Cup !
Caution though, there was still a powdery taste which might be a deal-breaker to some. The drink is best consumed ice-cold !
G-FUEL claims that their energy drinks provide energy without coffeine or sugar crash. You’ll need to be the judge over that, as I know everyone reacts differently to coffeine, but I indeed did not have any kind of energy crash after, and one thing that I specifically noticed and enjoyed is that I did not felt nauseous after drinking it. I used to drink a lot of energy drinks from other brands and nowadays I feel nauseous before finishing the quarter of the can. I’d say it might even be a slight inconvenience as I could literally drink another cup straight after the first one.
Rare item prize
As the product was advertised, we were lead to believe that the rare item code would award « The Great Golden Plushie Handled », which I was pretty excited about. The item was added to neopets for the occasion and it felt like a cute touch to also possess the item virtually in the game. However, the codes issued didn’t award this item and instead awarded from a pool of items, containing the handled and several slushie cups going away for a four hundred thousands neopoints to 1 million and a half neopoints.
I was able to get this resolved by contacting the neopets support, and they gave me my handled. I’ve see several other people with the same issue, so don’t hesitate to send a support request. It’d be a big missed opportunity to not get the same slushie cup for your neopets !
The great golden slushie promises to be quite a rare item, especially with the issue going on for most users still, as only one at the time of writing is in the trading post, and two in the auctions for more than 50 million neopoints and no offer on them.
Conclusion
Overall, I’m very happy with my neopets slushie cup and the great golden berry energy drink. I feel like this is a cool item to own if you like neopets as well as energy drinks, but totally worth missing out on otherwise. I’ll probably be re-ordering G-FUEL drinks in the future, as it is still a cheaper option for energy drinks than most concurrent brands on top of not being a nauseous mess of a drink.
